This collection draws inspiration from a larger theme of human greed and decadence, as visualized through the capture and preparation of the endangered ortolan as meal.
The Tradition of capturing and force feeding the tiny birds before drowning them in brandy and roasting them whole, to be consumed under the veil of a napkin, is a disturbing and poignant symbol of the destruction of human greed.
This collection flows through five stages: the songbird free in nature, the ortolan captured, the ortolan being prepared for consumption, the consumption of the ortolan as seen through man, and the final remnants of the songbird.
Each piece is a testament to the complex and often paradoxical nature of human desire
The pieces I have chosen to bring to life are for the final two stages: One in the point of view of the man consuming the ortolan, and one in the view of the final remains of the bird.
